About Restoras
As a restorer of painting and polychromy, I am holding a Master’s degree in Art History and Archaeology (2002, Université Catholique de Louvain-La-Neuve) and a Master in Restoration and conservation of paintings and polychromy (2008, Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten Antwerpen). By regularly following courses at INP (Institut National du Patrimoine, Paris) and ICCROM (International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property, Rome), I am specialized in preventive conservation.
After my apprenticeship with the restoration Studio Van Herck – Eyckelberg (Antwerp), I started restoring as a freelancer for private collections.
I have worked as a preventive conservator with The Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage in Brussels (KIK-IRPA) for ten years and then joined the Monument Watch team in the province of Antwerp in 2017, where I’m currently still working part-time.
Filosofie
My philosophy is to alter the artwork as little as possible with respect to the original intention of the artist. Therefore each painting is examined closely and I tailor the methodologies to meet both the needs of the painting as well as the owner. Only the finest materials and techniques, which are found in major museums around the world, are being used. In accordance with my belief that restoration should be noninvasive, all the work done is fully reversible and in accordance with the Code of Ethics of the American Institute for Conservation (AIC) as well as the vision of the European Confederation of Conservator-Restorers Organisations (ECCO).
